I-21…

Roller Skating! Yeah, seemed like a pretty good way to spend a lunch hour with the next big Texas Rollergirls star, so Bre and I headed to Playland Skate Park (the home of the Rollergirls) around noon. Figured there’d be a couple people there, but empty enough that we I could stumble around and not be embarassed.

We pull into the parking lot and saw two equally confusing things.

  • The parking lot, that easily fits a couple hundred cars, was packed.
  • We saw three black people.

Why in the world was a skating rink packed in the middle of the day? Why in the world did we see three black people in a row (this is Texas people…)?

Bingo! No, I didn’t forget to write the answer, that is the answer. They were all playing Bingo! A couple hundred people all playing Bingo in the middle of the day! Who are these people? Why are they playing Bingo? Do they do this all day? Do they not have jobs? Do they steal away for a couple hands like a Las Vegas convention-goer stealing away for a couple craps rolls during a bathroom break?

We heard a call of “I-21”, some guy stretching (yes, stretching!) looked in our direction, and we ran away.

  1. Yes, it was very disappointing. A huge glitch in my Texas Rollergirl Training Schedule. I can still hear echoes of “I-21” in my dreams…*shudder*
YOU ain’t got no job, bitch!
And come on Mark, we saw AT LEAST five black people. Were we on an episode of The Twilight Zone?

  3. I’m still quite confused. I’m working on my letter to the NAACP right now, for the blatant violation. If, heaven forbid, there was an accident, we probably would’ve lost the majority of black people in this state.

  5. if you ever go rollerskating during lunch again and don’t invite me, it’s “FRIENDSHIP…OVER”! best. idea. ever.
