I spend a lot of time picking apart web sites to get a feel for how good their technology is. I often hear, “What are you looking for?” as I’m scrolling through HTML, so I’ve rolled what I look for into a talk called “From Easy To Geeky”. It’s a Top 10 list geared towards AEs, PMs, Producers, and the like.

Strikes happen. In almost every industry you’ll find companies that have had to deal with strikes in one way or another. The consumer is always affected, but both sides usually try to minimize the inconvenience. The company doesn’t want people to stop using them, so they make sure the consumer is taken care of. Labor depends on public sentiment, so they try to give consumers fair warning.

Neither happened today as the bus drivers went on a one-day strike. THE DAY BEFORE A MAJOR HURRICANE! For people like me who have to take the bus to get supplies and food and whatnot, what are we supposed to do? Many people will probably stay home tomorrow, so we’re not using the bus tomorrow. And CapMetro? They advertise an
email notification system on their site that will let you know if anything happens with the strike. My mailbox this morning? Empty. The juxtaposition of the two most recent news articles at capmetro.org are just perfect.

For crap’s sake, this show is awesome. Seriously people. I can’t believe I didn’t get all up in it earlier. I can’t believe that there are 23 episodes to go, and I gotta think there weill be some lulls like 24 (way back when, when I used to watch that one) and Alias (is anyone else annoyed that Affleck’s demon spawn is working it’s way into the show), but I’m psyched to watch a couple more episodes tomorrow. And if you’re nice, I might even wait a night if you’d like to catch and join in the Lost-fest.

I consider myself a pretty laid-back person, but I’m really anal about certain things. I missed the first 15 minutes of the season premiere of Lost and never watched an episode. I caught a couple episodes in Hawaii via Lau, saw the pilot when they re-aired it month before last, but didn’t allow myself to get sucked in—despite the first show being the best pilot I’ve ever seen. Anal. Dumb.

But Ms. Katie has bought me the entire DVD for my birthday. And I am happy. And it is wide-screen, so I’m pretty much wetting myself right now. 25 episodes. From the beginning. If anybody wants to hop aboard the drama train, it’s leavin’ the station.

Birthday weeks truly are glorious things. There’s no pressure for people to change plans so they can come out on a certain night, no disappointment when a birthday falls on a bad day of the week, and people buy you drinks every night. But five nights of drinking in a row? That’s just dumb.

I didn’t make it off the couch Friday or Saturday. Just relaxed. And that was pretty glorious too.

I might do Nasty’s tonight.

I might do roller skating tomorrow.

I might just go home and take a nap too.

So I just got back from spending a week in New York, and it looks like I might be able to get back there even sooner than I thought.

Delta is starting the first direct flight from Austin to New York (Newark doesn’t count) October 15th, and they’re having a huge sale to kick it off. My Thanksgiving ticket home is gonna be a whopping $222.
