Movie Of The Week – Supersize Me

I eat a lot of fast food. I know I eat more than most of my friends, but I used to eat even more. In high school it got so bad that I didn’t even have to order—they knew what I wanted.

The movie talks about how McDonalds reels in kids with its marketing (their “mascot” is a clown) and with its on-site playgrounds (if it’s the only playground in the neighborhood, of course kids want to go). It talked about the lack of easy to find nutritional information, and the constant suggestions to Supersize and gorge yourself even more.

The one topic that the movie failed to bring up however, was price. One of the big reasons why I ate there all the time as a kid, was simply because it was cheap. And it tasted pretty good. Trying to support me by herself, Mom wasn’t able to come home and cook me dinner everynight—the both of us sitting down to a meal together was a rarity. Yeah, there were tons of more healthier options, but sometimes cost is simply more important.

Overall, I really enjoyed the movie—it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. It had it’s flaws, but I’m glad I saw it. You should see it too.
